The actual black-and-white image was subsequently coloured. Nano particles are so small, that they are not even visible when viewed with the help of a conventional optical microscope. Researcher Andreas Landefeld, a graduate engineer at the Institute for Materials at the TU Braunschweig, nevertheless hopes to be able to reshape these particles and create nano-size crimp connectors, cogwheels and tools in the near future.
